Palindrome Checker

Type text to see if it reads the same forwards and backwards (ignoring spaces, punctuation, and case).

We strip out non-alphanumeric characters and compare the cleaned text to its reverse.

Please write something to check.

How the Palindrome Checker Works

Our palindrome checker focuses on the meaning of your text, not the formatting. Instead of comparing the raw characters (with spaces, commas, and mixed cases), it cleans the input first and then checks if it reads the same forwards and backwards.

When you type or paste text into the box, the tool:

  1. Normalizes your text: All letters are converted to lowercase so “RaceCar” and “racecar” are treated the same.
  2. Strips out non-alphanumeric characters: Spaces, punctuation, and special symbols are removed. For example, Never odd, or even! becomes neveroddoreven.
  3. Builds the reversed version: The cleaned string is reversed character by character.
  4. Compares original vs. reversed: If the cleaned text and its reverse match exactly, the tool labels it as a palindrome. If not, it shows that it is not a palindrome.

You also see the cleaned, reversed version of your text in the results panel, so you can quickly understand why something is or is not a palindrome. The sidebar summary shows a simple “Is a palindrome” / “Not a palindrome” verdict plus the length of the cleaned text.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a palindrome checker and how does it work?
A palindrome checker is a simple tool that tells you whether your word, sentence, or phrase reads the same forwards and backwards. This checker cleans your text by removing spaces, punctuation, and capitalization, then compares the cleaned version with its reverse. If both match exactly, it labels your input as a palindrome and shows you the reversed text so you can see the result clearly.
How do I use this online palindrome checker tool?
Using this palindrome checker is easy: type or paste your text into the input box and the result updates instantly. You’ll see whether your text is a palindrome, the reversed version of your cleaned text, and a simple summary in the sidebar. If you want to start again, click the Clear button to reset the tool and enter new text.
Does this palindrome checker ignore spaces, punctuation, and capitalization?
Yes. The tool is designed to focus on the actual letters and numbers in your text, not the formatting. It removes spaces, commas, periods, and other non-alphanumeric characters, and converts everything to lowercase before checking. That means phrases like “Never odd or even” still count as palindromes even though they include spaces and capital letters.
Can I check full sentences and phrases for palindromes online?
Absolutely. This palindrome checker works with single words, short phrases, and full sentences. Just paste your sentence into the box and the tool will clean it, reverse it, and instantly tell you whether it’s a palindrome. It’s ideal for testing classic palindromic phrases or exploring your own creative sentence ideas.
What are some common palindrome words and phrases I can test with this tool?
You can start with classic palindrome words like “level”, “radar”, “civic”, “madam”, “refer”, and “noon”. For phrases, try “Never odd or even”, “Was it a car or a cat I saw”, “Madam, I’m Adam”, “A man, a plan, a canal, Panama”, or “Step on no pets”. Enter any of these into the checker to see how the tool cleans and reverses the text in real time.
